Burk TechnoEconomics is the partnership of chemical engineers Chris Burk and Phil Michael. Chris is a leader in the field of techno-economic modeling for hard-tech innovations. He has developed models for over 100 technologies, built a library of advanced software tools, and has written and spoken extensively on the subject. Prior to founding Burk TechnoEconomics in 2016, Chris spent 12 years in industries including pilot plant EPC, SBIR funded research, and cleantech startups. Chris is a Licensed Professional Engineer and holds BS and MEng degrees from Cornell University.
Phil Michael joined Burk TechnoEconomics as a partner in 2023. Phil’s industry experience spans the early-stage technology development cycle. He has been VP of Engineering at a clean chemistry startup, managed procurement and construction of ‘largest-to-date’ systems in renewable energy and water treatment, and served on the leadership team of a startup during its acquisition by a publicly traded corporation. Phil is also a Licensed Professional Engineer and holds an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Yale University.
